The Road to Hana

On Wednesday we took on the "Road to Hana".

We drove for what seemed like forever on the
Hana Highwayto a town called Hana.

This is a wonderful experience all in it's own and something every tourist must do in Maui. Gorgeous scenery the whole way (if you don't fall asleep) along a windy road that just keeps going. If you get car sick that pretty much ruins the adventure but it was still worth it. Plus it was the way to our camp ground where we stayed for 5 nights in Hana. Not only is the road really twisty and turny; it's extremely narrow. So narrow that you think it's a one way until a car comes towards you in the opposite direction. Lets just say I'm glad I wasn't driving; I don't know how Brian did it sneaking by, car after car. Not to mention the tour buses! But all in all it was pretty sweet! I would do it again in a heart beat. It was the most beautiful part of Maui thus far. We were able to stop some along the way too, trying to capture the beautifulness but it just isn't the same as seeing it yourself. But we tried!

Hana is not a very big place. It actually reminded me of Lundbreck, AB. There were two general stores, a gas station, a school, some houses......ect. What should have planned it better and loaded up on some groceries to take with us. It would have been cheaper and gave us WAY more selection. It would be like buying groceries from Lundbreck's general store every day. You can get by if you have to but it obviously would be better to go to Sobey's or Safeway. We survived though. Our favorite meal right now is tuna mixed with Hummas (any flavour) and lemon juice on crackers. It's actually really good! We had a can of tuna and I had a craving for Hummas one day and Bri thought it would be a good idea to mix them. It really was a good idea and we love it. Everyone should try it. Even if you don't LOVE hummas I think you would like it. Try it with roasted red pepper hummas, that's my favourite.

So you might have guessed since Hana isn't all that big, there wasn't a whole lot to do for 6 days. There of coarse were a couple beaches; three for sure. We mainly hung out by the Hana Bay sun tanning, playing cards, reading books, eating, and what not. It was really nice there and typically quite hot but also got pretty windy a lot. Not as windy as Pincher by any means but too windy to play cards sometimes.

We camped at Waianapanapa State Park. It was a great place to camp, one of the best so far. Mainly because it was spider free.....haha.....but also because of the sweet beach and and caves located there. Not only was the beach really nice; it had BLACK SAND! It was sooo cool! The sand got really hot in the sun though. We sun tanned there once which was neat. The rocks and coves of the beach were also black. It was truly amazing to see. There was also a blow hole but we didn't see it shoot up water unfortunately. The caves were actually lava tubes called Waianapanapa and Waiomao caves. They were pretty cool.

More to come about our time in Hana...

Can I just say, the Road to Hana is on my life-list...my favourite tweener-teen girl Christian novels had an experience on the road to Hana and I've ALWAYS wanted to go since then.

Can I also say that you guys are seeing way too much of the world without me?

Can I lastly say that that is a gorgeous picture of the two of you?

HAHA That's funny about your book. It was gorgeous but quite boring for 5 nights! It is very small and not much to do. But it was relaxing. We didn't have many options when we were booking campsites before we left and didn't know before we got here how small it actually was. There isn't that much camping in Maui so we didn't have a choice really. We've actually been staying in hostels since then because the camping really isn't that good. It's been a nice change of pace though!

I almost didn't put that pic up of us but I'm glad you liked it!
